You may cancel this Policy in the first year of insurance during the 14 days after the policy has come into force by giving notice in writing to ARMD at [email protected]. This right does not apply at any subsequent renewal of the Policy.

If a claim has been submitted or there has been any incident likely to give rise to a claim during the period of insurance, no refund for the unexpired portion of the premium will be given.

Provided that there have been no claims or incidents likely to give rise to a claim that have occurred then, during the first 14-days after the policy has come into force, insurers will give a refund of the proportionate part of the premium paid in respect of the unexpired term of this Policy, subject to see our TOBA for our cancellation administration fees. See our policy wording on cancellations below:

    Policy Cancellation

You may cancel the insurance, without giving reason, by sending us notice and returning the insurance documents within 14 days of it starting or (if later) within 14 days of you receiving the insurance documents if you are a new customer or 14 days from the renewal date if you are an existing customer. On receipt of your written notice of cancellation you will receive a full refund of all premium paid provided that no claim has been paid by us and you do not intend to make a claim under this insurance.

If a claim has been made by you, we will not refund any premium. If you do not exercise your right to cancel during the 14-day cooling-off period, your policy will continue as normal. If you cancel your monthly payment this does not mean that you have cancelled your policy.

Cancellation by you after the cooling-off period

If you wish to cancel your insurance after the initial 14-day withdrawal period you can do so in writing. You can notify us of policy cancellation by contacting us in one of the following ways: [email protected] / +44 0204 5386212

If you pay your premium monthly, your policy will be cancelled at the next monthly anniversary of the date your policy commenced. There will be no refund of premium due as the premium paid will have only been in respect of the cover already received.

If a claim has been made by you, we will not refund any premium. If you cancel your monthly payment this does not mean that you have cancelled your policy.

If you pay your insurance premium annually and providing no claim has been made and you do not intend to make a claim under this insurance, you will receive a proportionate refund of premium based on the unused period of cover under the policy. Policy cover will cease from the date we receive your cancellation instructions or from a later date at your request.

If a claim has been made under this insurance, we will cancel your cover but not refund any premium. In all cancellations and as per our terms of business an administration fee may apply.

RSA is a leading international general insurer operating in the UK, Ireland, continental Europe and the Middle East.

We are one of the world's oldest general insurers, providing peace of mind to individuals and protecting businesses from risk for more than 300 years.

Today, we are proud to be a customer-focused, agile and resilient business, with strong brands and an emphasis on operational and performance improvement.

Yes they are as we recognise that it's not practical to have to load and unload your tools at the start and end of every day. The tools however must be locked in your van with any alarm turned on and out of sight. Your van should be parked:

    • In a locked compound or
    • If you are stopping at a hotel, in the hotel car park or a well-lit street adjacent to the hotel or
    • If you are at home, on your driveway or on a well-lit road next to your home

Yes they are. Simply let us have the registration number of the van that you drive and advise us if that changes.

Each claim will have an excess of £100 applied

This is an Indemnity policy which means that the insurer, RSA, will take wear and tear into account when settling any claim. They calculate this at 10% of the purchase price per year up to a maximum of 5 years.

The policy works on a per vehicle basis. If you carry your tools in more than 1 vehicle you will need to buy a policy for each

Simply advise us of the registration number of your new van and we will make the changes to your policy for you

We cover hundreds of different trades but there are a few that we don’t. These are:

    • Breakdown/vehicle recovery
    • Bullion and/or precious metals
    • Door to door sales
    • Entertainers
    • Market traders
    • Mobile shops
    • Outworkers
    • Party sales
    • Sales representatives

Receipts are always the first choice for an insurance company when processing a claim as it proves that you owned it and is not a stolen item in the first place. To benefit from our 5 day claims promise you would need the majority of your receipts but we do understand that is not always possible so in those cases a selfie of you with the tool (which you can do from the free ARMD tool inventory app) does go some way to proving you owned it before it was stolen.

It is worth noting an insurer assesses each claim on its own merits and takes into account all sorts of information not just receipts. The ARMD app and tech is trying the streamline that for tradespeople as much as possible so that you can firstly get the correct protection and secondly make claims smoother so that you can get back on the tools as quickly as possible if the worst happens. It is always a good idea to keep your receipts and log them in the app and for the few you do not have receipts for take as many photos of the tool and log any other proof you may have.

Also if you buy regularly from the same tool shop like Screwfix or even online they will often have a record of your receipts under your account so you can easily download those proof of purchases and upload them to ARMD tool inventory in a few steps.

This Tools in transit insurance policy cover Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

An OBD port is a vehicles ‘On-Board Diagnostics’ port. It is a socket usually found under the steering wheel or near the glove compartment. It may be covered behind a removable panel. If you cannot find it google the make and model of your vehicle with OBD in the search i.e ‘Ford transit custom 2019 ODB location’

The PIR disc sensor needs to go in the back of your van and cover the widest viewpoint possible including the doors where a breach is most likely to happen. Often this is on the bulkhead about 12 inches down from the roof, which would cover the back doors and a side door. Still, we understand that because of racking and different van configurations this is not always possible so in these cases place a far away as possible pointing at the most vulnerable parts of the van. It range is from 10cm to 5m. The sensor comes with a cradle that can easily stuck on or screwed to a surface and the PIR sensor then clips into it.

Sometimes the vehicles OBD port is already in use with another device in this situation you need to buy an extra OBD splitter here
Other times the OBD port maybe difficult to reach therefore you may need OBD extention lead which you can buy here

The PIR sensor that goes in the back last 7 years. The ARMD Guard hub that goes in the front takes power from your vehicle battery so unless the vehicle is left stationary for months it should stay powered. If for any reason the power does run out or the up is unplugged you will be notified in the ARMD app and by text message.

There are no top up's needed as the data is covered in your monthly or annual price.

After our research there were a number of different reasons why we did not include an audible siren within the alarm:

    • The police are more likely to put the blue lights on and come to the scene of the crime if they have a chance of catching them red handed. BTW we always encourage you not to approach a theft that is taking place. Simply call the police and if you can try capturing them on film at a safe distance. This is for your own safety and will also support any insurance claim.
    • They often do not deter the thief and irritate the neighbours when accidentally triggered.
    • It brings the price of the product up therefore making it less attractive.

ARMD collects various alarm usage and location data, such as how often the alarm is armed and where the vehicle travels. It is worth noting that none of this information is shared with any third party organisations, and is only used to improve the products ARMD makes for tradespeople.

We cannot speak for other insurers but ARMD insurance products still cover you if your alarm happens to be turned off when a theft happens. We do however expect you to have it plugged in and being used regularly to show that you are taking action to try and prevent and protect your tools and van. It is worth mentioning that if you have ARMD insurance and your van is attacked whilst the alarm is armed, it can help to verify some claim details and speed up the process which is one of the reason we sell it with insurance.

A tamper switch is triggered when the ODB connector is removed. This will activate an immediate phone call alert and SMS message to alert you

Once you have purchased and installed the ARMD guard smart alarm you will be able to access the vehicle tracker within the ARMD app under the Security section.

Vehicle tracking has a different login to the one you registered when signing up for an ARMD account. You should have receive an email from us when you bought the alarm titled “Important information regarding your new ARMD Guard alarm” which includes the tracking login details. After your first login, you will then be prompted to change your password.
